Weather protection for outdoor football and fitness arena

Project description

With the construction of the new Redfit Arena, SV Stern Schwerinsdorf wanted to offer its members the opportunity to train regardless of the weather. The plan was for an open-air sports hall with an artificial turf football pitch and fitness area that can be almost completely opened up at the sides in good weather. In bad weather, it should be possible to close the sides of the hall with textile door systems to allow sufficient air circulation while providing protection from the weather.

Solutions

Two Tectura folding doors (each 11 metres wide x 4.5 metres high) were used for the side opening of the hall. The door systems were fitted with close-meshed mesh type 60/60-1 to ensure sufficient light transmission and air circulation. Both folding fronts are operated with a 400 volt electric drive. For visual reasons, the drive unit was moved inwards so that only the textile curtain and the side guide rails were visible from the outside. The drive tube runs through the steel supports of the hall. The entire planning was carried out by Möhlenkamp - Textile Systemlösungen in co-operation with Husmann Stahlbau GmbH. On-site installation was carried out by employees of Möhlenkamp - Textile Systemlösungen.

Benefits

Depending on the weather conditions, the Soccerhalle can be opened and closed almost completely on one side. An additional ventilation effect is achieved by using the close-meshed fabric with a wind brake of approx. 92 %. The Tectura folding fronts also ensure safe opening and closing under high wind loads. In addition, the fabric used ensures sufficient daylight even when the door is closed. Visually and functionally, the textile door systems are a successful solution that also impresses with its long service life and cost-effectiveness. The combination of covered hall construction and Tectura folding fronts ensures optimum training conditions and offers unique football and sports fun all year round.
